For an interior-design newbie, it can become easy to cling to the outlined decor rules. All woods must be of the same finish! Mixing and matching woods can add dimensionality to your luxurious residential house in Pune, but you barely hear this from anyone. The living room furniture must match. The ceilings should be white.

Rules! Rules! Rules!

The best interior decorating rules are essential to getting the basics done in your home, but real, steadfast rules were created for aesthetic reasons and are not set in stone.

The most delightful and inviting interiors are designed when a decorator or homeowner takes challenges. Decorating your home is therapeutic and a great creative outlet to a lot of people, so without further delay, let’s get down to it!

Overhead Lighting Is A Must For Every Room!

What a colossal decor myth this is. There is no word “must,” especially when it comes to how we do our luxury houses in Pune. Sometimes a great lighting is a combination of floor lamps and table lamps in place of a single, glaring, overhead lighting.

Mix and Match Are A Big No!

If I had a nickel for every time a client told me that the colors needed to match. Where did this rule come from? It certainly didn’t come from observing nature.

Have you ever pondered all the pinks, reds, oranges, and purples in a single rose? Or the myriad shades of green present on a spring morning?

I would blame this rule on our moms and the 1950s when matching shoes were trendy.

If you like two different styles, it doesn’t mean that you have to use just one. You can mix the styles between rooms, or within one room, it doesn’t matter. Mixing feminine with masculine, high and low, round and square—it makes the space unique and exciting. Mixing styles, colours, patterns, textures, finishes, scales and even shapes is an excellent way to give your home warmth, interest and a welcoming feel.

Ceilings Have To Be White!

When it comes to redecorating our homes, many people prefer to paint the ceilings white. Well, ceilings do not have to be exclusively white, you can choose any colour you like.

Designers also recommend you select fun and patterned wallpaper for your ceiling to make it look less annoying. And if your room is neutral and monochromatic, a delicate, metallic champagne colour on the roof will look great. Piece of cake!

Mixing Florals And Stripes is A Disaster!

There is no reason to succumb to this one. Putting together different patterns is such a simple way of creating variety and excitement in any room. The easiest way is to opt for different fabrics for different rooms. You can pick the stripes for one area of the room and a floral elsewhere. When you want to add a second design to the one you already have in a room, look for typical hues to arrange it in the right way.

So, try to be different from the rest of the world and do something extravagant with your home and forget about those interior house decorating rules.

Only Bright Colors Can Be Used As Accents!

Don’t shy away from using an eye-catching and arresting colour for your accent wall. As long as you have the smack dab accents around the room to match with your new color, you can choose whatever color you want. Maybe a colour-rich monochrome wall.

What colours can you go for? Yellow and orange are becoming a bit outdated, but blue is definitely in!

Also, don’t forget that there is more to accent walls than just paint. A stone or tile can also look fantastic. The key to accent walls is that they are the most versatile decorating weapon you can have. The only rule for accent walls is that they highlight a wall.

Don’t Place A Single Chair On Its Own!

This is an interior home decor rule that’s a holdover from our grandparents’ times. But contrary to this rule, there are plenty of scenarios when a single chair looks great on its own. Flush the consistent-style rule down the drain!

Monochrome Decorating Should Be Avoided At All Costs!

Parallel to the thinking that dictates that every room needs a pop of colour, many people follow the rule that decorating in a monochrome palette is a no-no. But take some time to think of all the prospects. How flamboyant would a room be decorated entirely in red, or how soothing would space feel in all nude tones? Even any subtle colour that speaks loudly despite the quiet vibes will look stunning.

“Your home should tell the story of who you are, and be a collection of what you love.”

So let the creative juices flow naturally, stay true to your natural style and instincts! As they say, the true style has the chance to materialize when you stop fretting about what everyone else is doing or will think, and do what makes your guts grin!
